Choosing Nursery Cribs - Traditional and Modern Cribs, Types of Cribs
Choosing the crib for your nursery is probably the single most
important furniture decision you will need to make. Since the crib is
usually the focal point in the room, its choice influences the choice
of the other furniture pieces and the accessories. Even if you decide
that your crib is not going to be a focal point (which is perfectly
fine as you can choose a painted wall mural or display shelf as a focal
point), it is still very important that you choose the right crib for
both your baby's comfort and safety, and for the nursery style. If we
assume that crib safety is a minimum requirement and a given, there are
a few key
factors which influence your choice when it comes to style - the style
of the room, the color
and your budget.
Types of Cribs
Before we proceed with the specific styles, consider that there are a few categories or types of cribs - convertible cribs which convert to a toddler bed, standard cribs with storage drawers, rocking cribs, drop-side cribs and oval cribs. If
you know you want a specific type for certain, then look for it in the
style, color and budget of your choice. Also, bear in mind that there
are crib which fall into more than one category - for instance, there
are models which start as standard cribs and later convert into a day
and full-size beds. |

Modern Nursery Cribs
First, the overall style that you prefer and are attempting to create in the nursery -
contemporary, traditional, vintage - will influence the crib styles
that you like. For instance, if you like modern and contemporary,
then you would be probably drawn to cribs with clean lines such as those offered by Oeuf, Litto Kids, NurseryWorks and Stokke. Here is a selection of some modern-style cribs by brand names that we like and which definitely rate high on elegance and comfort:
Traditional Nursery Cribs
If your style is traditional, there are plenty of options for you. What you are going for are time-tested designs and elegance. Da Vinci, Sorelle, Stork Kraft and Pali are all well known brand names which offer traditional cribs styles such as sleigh, European and high arc on one side. Take a look at a few such cribs below:

Second, the color of the crib is another important factor. White, mahogany,
cherry, oak or a two-tone combination - you have may options to match your style and design ideas. It is good to consider your overall nursery theme and design when you decide on a crib color.
Finally, you have to find a crib working with a particular budget in mind. There are plenty of mid-priced options but also high-end designer cribs if your budget allows it. Always look out for special promotions for the brands and models that you like and you might be able to find an expensive high-end crib for a special price.
